Terry Cole’s “Patient Object” (2022) aims to explore the digitization of memory. Filmed entirely on a flip phone, the piece embraces its “compressionist” and pixelated nature. Familiar B-roll subjects of landscape and people are awash in a haze of nostalgic impermanence. Due to the known aesthetic of the out-of-date digital technology, the viewer is aware of the existence of the camera, sparking thoughts on the human need for documentation. Where do our recorded memories live?
