In Listen to Big Data (2019), Dong Yuxiang creates an auditory environment for listeners to “meditate on the materiality of big data” and the environmental impacts rooted in the infrastructures of information communication technology. This sound piece is composed of field recordings captured at eight locations in and around a data center located in Richmond, VA.

Dong Yuxiang was born in 1990 in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province, China. His art practice and research investigates the intersection between art, technology, and society. He holds a BFA in Photography from Beijing Film Academy, Beijing, China and an MFA in Imaging Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Media, Art, and Text at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA.
