The Fields (2025) is an interactive web piece that allows users to create and add an emoji field to a shared space of contributions. Utilizing minimalist visuals and ambient noise, Schager creates a peaceful and slow-paced online community away from the intense speed of “algorithmic systems”. Inspired by his childhood memories in the community gardens, Schager hopes that viewers can enjoy real-time interaction and calm amidst the pervasive attention economy.

Arden Schager is a multidisciplinary artist and creative technologist from California, currently based in New York. He holds a BS in Computer Science from Stanford and is finishing an MFA in Design and Technology from Parsons. His practice explores interaction design and emerging technologies through a speculative-critical lens, crafting poetic systems that interrogate identity, ecology, and machine agency.
