Mez Breeze’s interactive web piece, _Prog[W]res[tle]s_ (2024), explores themes of doom scrolling, political erosion, climate change, extremism, and gender-based objectification. Breeze creates AI-collaborative visual narratives and Mezangelle, a hybrid language derived from programming syntax and poetic expression, to emphasize each interconnected theme. A distinct cyclical scroll mechanic invites readers to navigate the visuals by reversing, fast-forwarding, or pausing the content—a reflection of today’s relentless 24-hour entertainment news cycle and the barrage of social media feeds. Through this constant motion, _Prog[W]res[tle]s_ underscores how urgent social issues are intertwined and fed to both willing and unwilling cultural participants.

Mez Breeze has been creating digital fiction, VR/AI experiences, experimental games, and genre-defying storytelling since the mid-1990s. Best known for pioneering the code poetry language “Mezangelle,” her work pushes the boundaries of conventional formats, weaving critical social commentary into interactive environments that challenge institutional and societal frameworks. Her projects are taught globally and included in major collections such as The World Bank and the National Library of Australia. Beyond creation, she is an educator, theorist, archivist, and literary judge dedicated to the advancement of digital literature and art.
